Screen Shots
The human experience is incredibly nuanced. Though there is much positivity to experience in this life, the pain and struggles we endure can be extremely isolating. For many, film has given them the ability to feel validated in these experiences and has helped them understand that they are not alone.
Heavily inspired by the work of Harry Gruyaert’s TV Shots (1972), this project explores the emotional complexity shown in film through close-up photographs of a TV screen. By emphasizing the textures of the screen and the movement within it, the work draws attention to the nuanced emotional weight conveyed through film. The flickering light, the colors, and the pixelation are all emphasized. The images on the screen may be fleeting, but the emotions they generate linger.
